Governor-General, His Excellency The Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, made a pleasant surprise visit to the South Trelawny Edu-Skills Centre in Albert Town on Teacher’s Day, where he was warmly received by an appreciative team of teachers and students.
His Excellency used the occasion to deliver special Teacher’s Day Greetings and tokens to the staff and students, at the Centre which is one of his I Believe Initiative (IBI) Satellite Campuses.
In his address, The Governor-General encouraged the staff and students “to build on character as this is a trait that money cannot buy.”
National Coordinator for The Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence (GGPE), Major (Ret’d) Effiom Whyte who was in attendance also brought greetings from the Secretariat.
The Governor-General and his team also toured the complex with Chief Administrator, Mrs. Joan McKoy.
The South Trelawny Edu-Skills Centre which has a population of 145 students and seven teachers was recently furnished with computers and other educational supplies by the IBI.
The IBI is one of two programmes of the GGPE. The IBI addresses concerns of youth, education and family and is anchored in the belief that “there is nothing wrong with Jamaica that cannot be fixed by what is right with Jamaica.”
