The Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen received Letters of Credence from the Ambassador -Designate of the Republic of Chile to Jamaica, Ms. Constanza Figueroa Sepulveda, in a ceremony on Wednesday 15th September at King’s House.
The Governor-General, in welcoming the new Ambassador acknowledged that the cordial relations between Jamaica and Chile have remained consistent since its establishment in December 1963. The Ambassador underscored this and expressed her intention to strengthen the Chile/Jamaica diplomatic relationship. She highlighted the collaboration between the two countries in areas of mutual interest such as defense, air services, climate change, disaster risk reduction and Spanish language training.
Jamaica has benefitted from the delivery of courses in the Spanish Language, Management of the Public Budget, and Disaster Risk Reduction. Efforts continue between both countries toward cooperation in the field of sports, specifically in gymnastics, field hockey and tennis.
A first time Ambassadorial appointee, Her Excellency Figueroa Sepulveda is the first female to represent Chile in Jamaica at the ambassadorial level. She was accompanied by Mrs. Katia Contreras, Third Secretary and Mrs. Yolanda Ensignia, Honorary Consul for Chile.
