Good morning.
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Kings House for the swearing-in of Judges to the Supreme and Appeals Courts and to extend to everyone present, or viewing online, my warm greetings and best wishes for this new year.
As we step into 2024, we take this time to reflect, anticipate, embrace new beginnings and uphold our enduring values. I must use this occasion to remind you, even though you are aware of this fact, that the decisions taken by our courts have a profound impact on the lives of individuals and families.
To our distinguished judges, your pending ascension to these positions of great responsibility, is based on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission to me for approval and is a testament to your unwavering commitment to justice, your profound understanding of the law, and your unwavering integrity. Your roles are not just titles, but sacred trusts from the people, embodying the principles of fairness, impartiality, and the rule of law.
In these courts, the crucial role you play in our society is to blend a type of tapestry as you interpret laws that affect the lives of millions. Your decisions will not only resolve individual disputes but will also reflect our collective values and aspirations. You are guardians of our Constitution and the rights it guarantees to every citizen.
As you embark on this solemn journey, remember that the administration of justice demands wisdom, patience, and above all, a deep sense of humanity. Your judgments must not only be legally sound but also infused with empathy and understanding of the diversity of our society.
You are the standard-bearers of justice, and your actions should inspire trust and confidence in our legal system.
We celebrate with you today and wish for you a tenure marked by fairness, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of justice for all.
Congratulations and best wishes.
