HAPPY NEW YEAR!
A warm welcome to each one of you to King’s House and the available facilities.
It is good to have the pleasure of your company, and I trust you will have a good evening.
This function is under the aegis of the Consular Corps of Jamaica who have done a tremendous job of bringing back social life to King’s House.
Soon after our arrival at King’s House, the Executive of the Consular Corps led by Mr. William Tavares Finson were introduced to me. During the conversation, Mrs. Thalia Lyn expressed an interest in the plants and gardens. A small team later visited with Lady Allen, including Mr. Kenny Benjamin who volunteered, or was tasked with the responsibility for renovating the Tea Garden. He became the face of the Diplomatic Corp at King’s House in mapping out and refurbishing the garden.
a lot of work is been put in it.
Thanks Kenny – not only for the garden, but your input elsewhere on the grounds of King’s House.
Chairman, Mr. Tavares Finson, Mrs. Lyn, Mr. Benjamin, Diplomatic Corp and supporters; the staff of King’s House, joins Her Excellency and me in thanking you for this beautiful token of your support and down payment of your cooperation to assist in the restoration of the facility.
It is particularly meaningful to us at a time when funds for capital development are limited, given the economic crisis we have found ourselves in since 2008, as a result of the global meltdown. The Consular Corps is leading the way for the private sector to assist in the restoration and beautification of this historic site.
The tea garden undoubtedly adds to the ambiance of King’s House, and will be the showpiece for sometime, as well as the centre for relaxation.
What makes it even more appreciated is the fact that King’s House is not just a centre where some functions of Government are facilitated; it is home 24-7 for the Governor-General, his wife and some members of the support staff. When the appropriate outdoor chairs are fitted, it will compliment the garden beautifully.
Your contribution and attendance is a demonstration of what I said at my Inauguration:
“I believe that the majority of Jamaicans are good people. At the end of the day, everyone of us has to participate in the healing, restoration and ultimately the prosperity of this nation. There is nothing wrong with Jamaica that cannot be fixed by what is right with Jamaica”.
Thank you for coming and have a good evening!
