REMARKS BY THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL HIS EXCELLENCY THE MOST HON. SIR PATRICK ALLEN ON, GCMG, CD, KSt.J SWEARING-IN OF SENATOR & CABINET MINISTERS

This has been an unusual afternoon, but then we are in challenging times.

We continue for the Swearings-in of the first four Ministers of Government for the new Administration.  These Portfolio Ministers are critical to the continued smooth running of the machinery of Government.

  • National Security
  • Finance and the Public Service
  • Health & Wellness
  • Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade

These  Ministers have accepted the Prime Minister’s invitation to continue serving in their respective Portfolio Ministries, and have thereby indicated their willingness and commitment to contribute to the realization of the policy and programme objectives of the Government.

I am sure you are aware of the responsibilities that will be entrusted to you as you serve the Jamaican people.  You will be required to, among other things to:

  • Ensure the safety and security of citizens.
  • Manage the economy efficiently.
  • Contain the increasing incidence brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Continue diplomatic relations our international partners and Jamaicans in the Diaspora.

Other Ministers will be sworn in later in a timely manner, but the realities dictate that you  Ministers will lead the charge.  The expression ‘hit the ground running’ has probably taken on new meaning for you.  However, I am confident that you will do your best as you serve your country.

Congratulations.  I offer you all my best wishes and prayers as you continue your journey of service to Jamaica.

I invite you, as directed by the Governor-General’s Secretary to come forward to be sworn.
