The Honourable Errol Vaughan Johnson was born on August 29, 1952, to Fredrick and Edna Johnson in Preston Hill, St. Mary. From an early age Custos Johnson, along with his siblings, were exposed to good values and attitudes and as such developed a passion for education. His educational journey started at Preston Hill Primary School after which he moved on to Clarendon College. During his years at Clarendon College he was actively involved in co-curricular activities to include cadet and cricket. In all that Johnson did he maintained a high level of discipline which propelled him to be the Company Sergeant Major for the cadet unit as well as the Head Boy for the school.

Custos Johnson continued to excel at the tertiary level. He attained a Bachelor of Science Degree (First Class Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Rajasthan, India on scholarship and a Masters in Education (Psychology) and Diploma in Education from the University of the West Indies, Mona.

Lt. Col Johnson has been married to Loris, for over thirty five (35) years. The union produced two children; Mrs. Vashtee Carey married to Mr. Kevin Carey and Dr. Kavita Johnson. Custos and Mrs. Johnson are also the proud grandparents of Aadesh Carey.

Professionally, Custos. Johnson has served at various levels of the secondary education system since 1975; rising from a pre-trained teacher, to Head of Department, to Acting Principal and two-time principal. As an educator he has led several initiatives, to include the recent outreach feeding programme at Christmas and a literacy and numeracy improvement programme for the Parish of St. Mary.

A service oriented and civic minded individual, Custos Johnson            has served the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force at various ranks; moving from being Commissioned as Second Lieutenant (2/LT) in 1975 to Deputy Commandant (Second in Command) at present. He has served   the Board of the Housing Agency of Jamaica (HAJ) and has membership on the following committees; the Jamaica Legion Poppy Appeal Committee, Jamaica Library Service, Eastern Secondary Schools Sports Association (ESSSA), Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), Jamaica Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (JAPSS) and the National Bioethics Committee of Jamaica (NBCJ).


Custos Johnson is a qualified Hindu Marriage Officer, President and Religious Leader of the Sanatan Dharma Mandir, Jamaica and Secretary of the Jamaica Inter-Faith Movement.
