Good morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I welcome you to King\u2019s House for the swearing-in of Judges to the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal for the Easter Term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today you assume great responsibilities and new roles. I know that the road ahead will be challenging at times, but given your knowledge and talents which have been recognized and rewarded by the Judicial Service Commission\u2019s , I am confident that your assigned tasks and duties will be executed at the highest level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I share the sentiments of President Obama, speaking in connection with the retirement of Justice David Souter, when he said: \u2018I view that quality of empathy, of understanding and identifying with people\u2019s hopes and struggles, as an essential ingredient for arriving at just decisions and outcomes\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And so I charge you today to continue rendering judgments with empathy and understanding of our society\u2019s diversity. And I encourage you to continue serving with humility and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
