Prolific Jamaican journalist, author and TV presenter Ian Boyne launched yet another of his books “IDEAS MATTER: Journey into the Mind of a Veteran Journalist” <\/em>on Tuesday, November 19, at King’s House.\u00a0 This was facilitated by Their Excellencies the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen and the Most Honourable Lady Allen.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, The Governor-General <\/em>said that the book flowed powerfully from the mind of Ian Boyne, spanning an incredible array of themes. He stated that he was hopeful of seeing more media professionals, like Mr. Boyne, lift the national consciousness to that which is noble, honest and nurturing.<\/p>\n

“In this time when negativity and hopelessness are daily companions of so many Jamaicans, we need more media professionals like Ian. Jamaica needs media which is committed to give top billing – page one – to news which inspire and challenge our people to put their shoulders to the wheel as they strive for a better tomorrow,” said the Governor-General.<\/p>\n

Boyne’s established reputation for upholding high media ethics and balanced approach to journalism earned him the respect and appreciation of Prime Minister the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller, Leader of the Opposition Mr. Andrew Holness and former Governor-General Sir Kenneth Hall who were among the guests at the function.<\/p>\n

The book is a compilation of Mr. Boyne’s newspaper columns over the years, and which he hopes will represent his legacy.\u00a0 “The legacy that I want to leave behind is a legacy of fairness and balance”, stated Mr. Boyne, shortly after reading several excerpts from his book.<\/p>\n

Mr. Boyne thanked Their Excellencies for their hospitality and for making King’s House available for yet another historic event. He also acknowledged the support of Pelican Publishers Ltd. and The Gleaner Company Ltd., noting that the latter had always reserved space for his articles.<\/p>\n

Copies of the book were later autographed by Mr. Boyne at the reception which followed.<\/p>\n
