The Governor-General, His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen, Commander-in-Chief of the Jamaica Defence Force, attended the Annual Camp of the Jamaica National Reserve (JNR) in the areas of Lydford and Moneague, St Ann, yesterday. The visit provided an opportunity for the Governor-General to witness firsthand the operations and rigorous training that the servicemen and women undergo. Notable highlights included the Governor-General viewing troops conducting routine activities in a Patrol Harbour demonstration, and the observance of a Search and Rescue operation, utilising drone technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

During his\u00a0 visit, His Excellency expressed deep respect and admiration for the brave men and women serving in the Jamaica National Reserve. \u201cYou have committed yourself to expert training, demonstrating an exceptional sense of patriotism that is truly inspiring. The Governor-General also expressed gratitude to Brigadier Ricardo Blidgen, Brigade Commander of the Jamaica National Reserve, for his leadership and the high standard of training provided at the Annual Camp. The Chief of Defence Staff Rear Admiral Antonette Wemyss-Gorman was also a part of the visit to the training camp.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Jamaica National Reserve is an integral part of Jamaica\u2019s defence and security infrastructure and is comprised of trained volunteers from diverse social and professional backgrounds. The Reserve deploys in missions to support internal security operations, disaster response, search and rescue, border security, and civil-military cooperation. Through regular training and exercises, they maintain readiness and work alongside local\/international partners when needed.
