The Honourable Steadman Fuller, Deputy Governor-General, invested Professor Kwame Dawes, CD, as Jamaica’s Poet Laureate for 2025-2028.
Born in Ghana and raised in Jamaica, Professor Dawes has authored over 30 works exploring identity, history, and culture across the Caribbean, Africa, and North America.
The Poet Laureate is a prestigious role celebrating Jamaica’s finest poets and their contributions to literary heritage, overseen by the National Library of Jamaica since its reestablishment in 2014.
