Medical Practitioner, Dr. David Stair, is to be installed as Custos of Hanover on March 5, 2009.
He succeeds the Hon. Mavis Whitter-King CD, who demitted office in 2006 for health reasons. Dr. Stair was appointed Custos Rotulorum of the parish by Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, in September of last year on the advice of the Prime Minister.
As Custos Rotulorum for Hanover, the Hon. Dr. David Stair is the Governor-General’s representative in the parish. His duties include receiving the Sovereign or any representative of the Royal Family and the Governor-General, whenever they are in the precincts of the parish. As Custos, Dr. Stair will also serve as the Chief Magistrate for the parish of Hanover.
The Hon. Dr. Stair is the current Medical Officer at the Sandy Bay Health Centre in Hanover and his elevation to the office of Custos follows many years of dedicated community service.
He has served as Chairman of the Hanover Parish Health Committee, Member of the Board of Governors of Rusea’s High School and member of the board of the Hanover Mediation Centre. In the mid-1980s Dr. Stair served as Medical Officer for Operation Friendship and conducted several clinics in West Kingston, Portmore and Portland.
