Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, acting on the recommendation of Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding, has appointed Mrs. Marigold Harding as Custos Rotulorum for the parish of St. Andrew, effective August 9, 2010.
Mrs. Harding is the wife of Senator, Dr. the Hon. Oswald Harding, President of the Senate. She succeeds Bishop the Hon. Dr. Carmen Stewart, OJ, OD, who served as Custos of the parish from her appointment in October 1992 until her retirement on August 8 this year.
As Custos, Mrs. Harding will be the representative of the Governor-General in St. Andrew. Among her responsibilities, she will serve as Chief Magistrate for the parish, and ensure that there are sufficient Justices of the Peace to serve the Petty Sessions Court and communities throughout St. Andrew.
In the meantime, the Governor-General has expressed appreciation and gratitude to Bishop Stewart for her hard work and dedication during her tenure as Custos, and on the occasions that she served as Deputy Governor-General.
