Governor-General the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen has lauded the efforts of teachers who prepared students for the recently concluded The Gleaner’s Children’s Own Spelling Bee Championships.  Speaking to the national and parish champions and their coaches during a courtesy call at King’s House on Thursday (Feb. 3), The Governor-General said that the time spent preparing students outside of normal classroom sessions was very valuable, and is reflected in the brilliance that emerged in the championships.

The Governor-General said teachers are invaluable to the process of shaping the minds of young people and giving them the principles and values which must guide them on their journey through life.  He thanked the teachers for their tremendous work and for their commitment to education.

He praised the achievement of champion boy Hanif Brown who is trained by many times champion coach Rev. Glen Archer, and wished him well at the Scripps National Spelling Beein the United States later this year.  “Our prayers and support go with you,” The Governor-General said.
