Custos Rotulorum for the parish of St Ann, the Honourable Radcliffe Walters was sworn-in to serve as Deputy Governor-General in a brief ceremony presided over by His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen on February 12, 2013 at King’s House.
The appointment takes effect on Sunday February 17, 2013 and ends on February 18, 2013. Custos Walters accepted the Governor-General’s charge that he render loyal and effective service to the people of Jamaica. He said that “I am honoured to have been selected to serve for this brief time as Deputy Governor-General in the absence of His Excellency”. His selection followed consultations with the Prime Minister, the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller.
As is customary, a Deputy Governor-General is designated to serve during the Governor-General’s absence from the island. Sir Patrick will be addressing a Diaspora gathering in Florida on Sunday and returns to the island on Monday evening.
As Deputy Governor-General, Custos Walters will perform duties and functions similar to that of the Governor-General in representation of Her Majesty The Queen.
