“Push each other up! The support you lend to your fellow contestants and the people around you will be integral to making you a wholesome person.” This was the charge given by Her Excellency the Most Honourable Lady Allen to the 2013 contestants in the Miss Jamaica Global International Pageant.
Fourteen (14) contestants of the western-based competition paid a Courtesy Call on Lady Allen on Wednesday April 17. The contestants were scheduled to call upon other public figures while on their tour of Kingston.
Her Excellency reminded the contestants that learning poise was the first step in the competition. However, she cautioned them not to be confined to this but to also focus on long-term achievements.
“You’re not just beauty contestants, you also have career goals; things will not come easy! When you are faced with adversity, don’t roll-over and play dead. Great people are born out of adversity. Learning poise and representing your country is your first step towards greatness,” said Lady Allen.
One lucky contestant will be crowned Miss Jamaica Global in the grand coronation show to be held in May 2013. The winner will go on to represent Jamaica on the international leg of the competition in Nigeria.
The Miss Global International, formerly the Miss Commonwealth Beauty Pageant, was conceptualized by Mr. Lachu Ramchandani. Through his contributions, the pageant has grown immensely over the years and now sees participation from contestants across the world bringing global recognition to the Caribbean.
