Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen received letters of Credence from Ambassador-designate of the Argentine Republic, Mr. Marcelo Angel Balbi Calvo, during a ceremony at King’s House on Thursday, 23rd November 2023.
His Excellency congratulated Ambassador Calvo on his new assignment and recounted Jamaica’s long diplomatic history with Argentina and Jamaica’s love for football attributed in a large part to the prowess of Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona.
Ambassador Calvo is a lawyer and diplomat, whose career spans over 17 years of service. During the course of his career, he has held several posts, the most recent of which is the Coordinator of Oceanic and South Atlantic Policy, from January 2022 to the present.
Argentina is one of Jamaica’s oldest bilateral partners, having been one of the first Latin American countries to establish a diplomatic mission in Kingston in 1975. Jamaica and Argentina celebrated 60 years of diplomatic relations on 25th March 2023.
