Governor-General His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen on Sunday (March 28) received The Queen’s Baton for the 2010 Commonwealth Games from a delegation led by Mr. Mike Fennell, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation.  The Baton was symbolically passed to the Governor-General by Olympians Vilma McIntosh, Donald Quarrie and Sherone Simpson.

The Governor-General said he was pleased to be a part of the symbolic passing of the Baton and was honoured to be associated with the programme. The Governor-General was also pleased that athletes who have represented Jamaica were present to participate in the event.

“Thank you for allowing Her Excellency and I to be a part of this programme.   It is an honour for us to receive the Baton. It is even more meaningful having athletes here to share in this occasion,” His Excellency said.

The Queen’s Baton will travel to all Commonwealth countries leading up to the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India later this year.
