Governor-General Swears-in 7 Judges for Hilary Term

His Excellency The Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen on 6th January 2023, swore-in seven judges for the Hilary Term.

The judges just sworn are:

Puisne Judges

  • Miss Althea Jarrett

Acting Puisne Judges

  • Master Stephany Orr
  • Her Honour Miss Opal Smith
  • His Honour Mr Dale Staple

Masters-in-Chambers

  • Her Honours Miss Sherna Reid
  • Miss Carla Thomas

His Excellency extended congratulations to the judges, highlighting that they have “risen to a platform of great responsibility and service in Jamaica.” They were reminded by His Excellency to “exercise patience with the unlearnt, extend grace with the unkempt, and, to demonstrate prudence with every case that comes before their court.

Her Honour, Mrs Annmarie Lawrence-Grainger, in her response on behalf of her colleague judges, expressed gratitude to family and friends who support and enable judges to do their important work.

Judges are sworn thrice per year- in the Hilary, Easter and Michealmas terms.
