KINGSTON (JIS) – Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, acting on the recommendation of Prime Minister, the Hon. Bruce Golding, will install William Shagoury, OD, as Custos Rotulorum for the parish of Clarendon, on September 7.

The ceremony will be held at the Jamalco Sports Club in Halse Hall, Clarendon, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The function is open to the public and guests are asked to be seated by 1:20 p.m.

Mr. Shagoury was appointed Custos on August 1, following the retirement of the Hon. James de Roux, CD, who served as Custos of the parish from May 5, 1981 until his retirement on July 31, 2011.

A philanthropist and businessman, Mr. Shagoury believes that the holistic development of a society depends on its people who are committed, dedicated and willing, not only to show concern for the welfare of others, but to do something to change their circumstances for the better.

As Custos, Mr. Shagoury will be the representative of the Governor-General in Clarendon, and as part of his responsibilities, he will serve as Chief Magistrate for the parish, and ensure that there are sufficient Justices of the Peace to serve the Petty Sessions Court and communities throughout Clarendon.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the installation of the new Custos, all Justices of the Peace for the parish of Clarendon are being asked to sign the Magistrates Roll, which will be available at the Discount Supermarket, located at the Shopping Mall and Trading Tower, 1 Windsor Avenue, May Pen, by Wednesday, September 7, from Monday to Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
