Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen, received Letters of Credence from the High Commissioner-Designate for the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Jamaica, Mrs. Maureen Piribonemi Tamuno at King’s House this morning (Tuesday, June 29, 2021).
The High Commissioner spoke of her intention to strengthen the Nigeria/Jamaica long-standing bilateral and diplomatic relationship.
The Governor-General congratulated the new High Commissioner on her appointment and encouraged her to enjoy Jamaica during her time here. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected the social activities of His Office. “In a time without the Covid-19, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade we would have an annual Diplomatic Dinner where Ambassadors and High Commissioners to Jamaica would meet in one space…we look forward to the lifting of restrictions where we can once again have those social interactions…,” Sir Patrick Allen said.
Her Excellency said that the COVID-19 pandemic had also caused some lock-downs in Nigeria since last October and that the country was 60-75% open to pre-pandemic conditions.
