Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen received Letters of Credence from the High Commissioner-Designate of the Republic of Rwanda to Jamaica, Mr Claver Gatete, in a brief virtual ceremony at King’s House on Monday 11th April 2022.
Ambassador Ricardo Allicock, Director of Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT), presenting the Letters of Credence to The Governor-General on behalf of Mr. Claver Gatete, High Commissioners of the Republic of Rwanda.
In the ensuing exchange, Sir Patrick welcomed the High Commissioner, congratulated him on his assignment and expressed appreciation to the Government of Rwanda for appointing him as High Commissioner.
Sir Patrick said that many Jamaicans were impressed with the growth of Rwanda over the past decade and this meant the country had leadership that could motivate people to work together. The Governor-General extended best wishes to the Government and people of Rwanda and said he looked forward to the visit of Rwandan President Paul Kagame. The President visited Jamaica during the 14th – 15th April.
High Commissioner Gatete said it was a pleasure for him to serve in this capacity and promised that during his tenure, he would work toward strengthening the relationship between the two countries. The High Commissioner is based in New York, where he also serves as his country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Jamaica and Rwanda established Diplomatic Relations on the 6th of November 1998.
