It is both my duty and pleasure to swear-in members of our Judiciary, and in that spirit of commitment, I also warmly welcome each of you to King’s House.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to affect the court system, disrupt our respective ways of life and the way in which swearing-in ceremonies are now being conducted.  We, however, continue to persevere as we observe the necessary public health protocols and remain vigilant for our safety.

I share the admiration which the vast majority of people here in Jamaica and elsewhere have for our judicial system and for the men and women who uphold its continuing high reputation.

In Jamaica, the Judiciary is the foundation of our democratic processes and continues to be secured by a cadre of individuals, whose dedication to preserving the rule of law is fundamental to its integrity.

Andrew Jackson, a President of the United States of America, once stated that “All the rights secured to citizens under the Constitution are worth nothing unless guaranteed to them by an independent and virtuous Judiciary.”

The promotion of each one of you who will be sworn-in this morning, reaffirms your competence in service and commitment to nation-building through your vocation.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I know the tasks which you are assigned to perform are not easy.  Your position today requires years of study followed by years of experience, infused of course with you aptitude and

attitude, and your passion for precision, careful analysis of the principles

of law which underpins a just and safe society.

We value and respect your role in our democracy and wish you well as you assume your new responsibilities.

I also encourage everyone to support the judicial system as it continues to serve our people in receiving justice.

Congratulations to the Judges designate.
