The parish of St. Mary will honour the Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon Sir Patrick Allen, at a civic reception at the Claude Stewart Park, Port Maria, next Thursday (October 1).

The function will be part of a full day of activities, in which the Governor-General will participate. Others include tours of the Port Maria Hospital, the Port Maria High School and the Port Maria Infirmary; an inspection of a Guard of Honour; and viewing an art exhibition, sponsored by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) at the Port Maria Civic Centre.

Speaking to the Jamaica Information Service on Tuesday (September 22), Custos of St. Mary, the Hon. A.A. ‘Bobby’ Pottinger, said that the Governor General will be honoured for his lifetime achievements and, particularly, for attaining the office of Head of State.

Stating that it has been a long standing tradition for St. Mary to honour Governors General on their appointment to office, Mr. Pottinger said the parish is particularly pleased to extend that courtesy to the current holder of the office, because of his close association, having taught there for several years.

The official function will be attended by a number of dignitaries, including the Mayor of Port Maria, Councillor Richard Creary; and the Members of Parliament from the parish- the Hon. Robert Montague(Western), Tarn Peralto (South-east) and Dr. Morais Guy (Central).

Mr. Pottinger said the event will also feature cultural performances and other forms of entertainment. He added that the Governor General will meet and interact with the audience.
