Her Excellency the Most Honourable Lady Allen

Her Excellency the Most Honourable Lady Allen has been involved in Education and Nursing for over 30 years. As a dedicated educator, having gained a teaching Diploma from the Moneague Teachers’ College in 1973, she taught for 18 years at various institutions in St Catherine and St Mary specialising in Home Economics.

Lady Allen began nursing training at the Northern Caribbean University’s Nursing Department while serving as the Institution’s Dean of Women.   She migrated to the United States with her family in the mid-1990s and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Andrews University, Berrien Spring, Michigan in 1995.  In the same year, she was inducted into the International Nurse’s Honours Society, Sigma Theta Tau.  In 1997, she commenced advanced studies at Andrews University and completed her Master of Science Degree, graduating as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. She also completed specialist training in Cardiac and Geriatric Nursing and received certifications in both Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Lady Allen has had a distinguished career in Nursing and was decorated with several senior positions.  From a Staff Nurse at the Berrien General Hospital in Michigan, USA, she was soon promoted to Manager of the Hospital’s Dialysis Unit.  She was later appointed   Director of Health Care Services at Westwood Long Term Care Facility, also in Michigan, USA.

On her return to Jamaica in 2002, Lady Allen joined the faculty at the Northern Caribbean University as a Lecturer in the Department of Nursing, and later served as the University’s Human Resource Director until December 2007.

In January 2008 she became the Shepherdess Coordinator at the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.  In this position, she headed chapters in Jamaica, The Cayman Islands, The Bahamas, and The Turks and Caicos Islands, where she mentored and supported the wives of pastors.

An advocate for children and the elderly, Lady Allen now works with young men and young ladies in several state-run juvenile facilities and children’s homes.  One day each week, she visits the Bustamante Hospital for Children and reads to the children.

Lady Allen is Patron for several organisations related to youth, women, and health and she uses each opportunity to share the “I Believe” Message.

Lady Allen loves gardening and has supervised the resuscitation of the King’s House Orchid House, the planting of an orchid garden, and a rose garden.  She is excited to be involved in the long-term restoration and renovation projects at King’s House, which she describes as ‘the People’s House.’ She hopes one day to see the installation of a gazebo, an ornamental fish pond with a boardwalk, an aviary, a theme park, and an organic vegetable garden.

Sir Patrick and Lady Allen have been married since July 20, 1975. They have three (3) adult children and eight (8) grandchildren.
