Words are inadequate to express the admiration and respect which I have long held for the Hon. Maurice Facey, whose passing I now grieve.
Lady Allen joins me in expressing our heartfelt condolences to his widow, Mrs. Valerie Facey and their children, Stephen and Laura on their bereavement. They have lost a husband and father who to the rest of us seemed larger than life, but who was very real in the love and care which he shared with them. We know that fond memories of him will sustain them in all the difficult days ahead.
We shall also hold dearly our memories of one of Jamaica’s truest sons, for whom the development of our country to the greater good of the majority of its people was a driving ambition. A consummate businessman, the Hon. Mr. Facey set the highest standards of quality and integrity in the many and varied business, community, cultural and national programmes which he initiated or with which he became involved. There is so much for which Jamaica must thank him and yet, Maurice was not one to blazon his achievements and contributions. For all that he has done for our nation, for the integrity and humility which characterized him and for the excellence on which his very self was centred, he will long be remembered and highly esteemed.
May his example be a strong motivation to all Jamaicans to live a life of integrity, to always strive for excellence, to serve our nation faithfully and to keep the family united and strong.
May the soul of this wonderful son of Jamaica, the Hon. Maurice Facey, rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him.
