The Governor-General has proclaimed the month of March as “Endometriosis Awareness Month”. The Proclamation was read on March 11, 2014 in the Ballroom of King’s House and was received by Mrs. Shauna Fuller-Clarke, founder of the B.A.S.E. Foundation: Better Awareness and Support for those who suffer from Endometriosis (B.A.S.E.).
During the brief presentation ceremony, His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen lauded Mrs. Fuller-Clarke for her efforts in raising the awareness of women in Jamaica who suffer silently from the disease. He noted the achievements of the B.A.S.E. Foundation since its establishment and encouraged its founder, members of the foundation and Jamaica women who now benefit from the foundation.
The proclamation called for, among other things, an increase in awareness of the disease, support efforts to raise awareness and disseminate information about the symptoms and signs associated with endometriosis, as well as to promote and support research and education programmes to reduce its impact on society.
