When Lady Allen, wife of Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen, accepted patronage for the Bustamante Hospital for Children (BHC), she accepted not just as First Lady but also as a ‘friend’ of the organisation. Through her active involvement with the hospital, several stakeholders have become donors to the sole children hospital in the country. Once such group, is the ISSA Trust Foundation which today, Wednesday March 26, donated equipment valued at over $70,000USD to hospitals across Jamaica, including BHC.
The presentation was made following a Courtesy Call on Her Excellency at King’s House, where Lady Allen met with executive members of the Foundation as well as some of their volunteers.
Ms. Dian Pollard, President and CEO of the Foundation, lauded Lady Allen for the work she has been doing with the hospital over the years. She expressed pleasure in being able to donate the much needed equipment to the hospital, noting that this is helping them to honour their corporate social responsibility.
The Foundation has donated several state-of-the-art Welch Allyn equipments. They are: a Wall Unit with Coaxial Ophthalmoscope, MacroView Otoscope with Throat Illuminator, Wall Aneroid and KleenSpec Specula Dispenser, Green SeriesTM 300 General Exam Light among other items.
Chairman of the Foundation, Mr. Paul Issa, indicated that there is much more to come from the organisation which will be celebrating its 10 year anniversary in 2015. The Foundation looks forward to doing bigger and better things to improve health organisation across the country. This includes introducing a transport incubator to serve hospitals island wide, web-based physician to patient consultations as well to provide an on-going public health education to increase awareness within the sector.
