The nation has laid to rest former Governor-General the Most Honourable Sir Howard Cooke.  He received a State Funeral which was held at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity on Friday, August 8, 2014.

Present at the well-attended Service of Thanksgiving was Governor-General His Excellency The Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, family members of Sir Howard Cooke, Prime Minister The Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller as well as other national, political, civic, business, religious and social leaders, among others.

Included among those paying tribute to the late former Governor-General were Prime Minister Simpson Miller, and the Jamaica Teachers’ Association President Dr. Mark Nicely.   All the tributes and The Remembrance given by Former Prime Minister P J Patterson gave an overview of the life of Sir Howard Cooke, his outstanding contribution to Jamaica’s growth and development, his love of family and his belief in the family as an important pillar in nation building.  The memories shared also spoke of Sir Howard’s appreciation for the rich diversity of Jamaica’s culture and most importantly his passion for the people of Jamaica.

Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen read the first scripture lesson and the second scripture passage was read by Leader of the Opposition Andrew Holness.

At the end of the church service, the draped casket carrying the remains of the former Governor-General travelled in procession from The Cathedral to the National Heroes’ Park where his body was finally laid to rest. There family members, the Governor-General, the Prime Minister the Leader of the Opposition, among others, paid their last respects by laying wreaths at the grave of Sir Howard.
