Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen has commended the management and staff of the Falmouth Public Hospital in Trelawny, for the high level of service rendered to the nation, as they consistently address the health needs of citizens in western Jamaica.

Presenting them with a Certificate of Recognition during his tour of the hospital on December 19, the Governor General said it was a “wonderful thing to spend one’s life caring and mending broken people.”

“My wife and I are delighted to be here with you today, along with the members of our team, because it gives us an opportunity to meet individuals who are on the front line of service, to greet you and not only you who serve, but also the individuals you serve,” he said

“The satisfaction you get from service, the smiles that you place on the faces of individuals, the lives you save, the ones you rescue, those you mend and make whole and send them on their way again.  Isn’t it wonderful to spend your whole life mending broken people?” the Governor General  told the  staff.

He  said it was a fitting way for the management and staff of the hospital to end the year of service and also a fitting way for himself and Lady Allen to end their series of hospital visits across the island.

“Our visit here continues the tradition of our predecessors to have hospital visits during the month of December, but even as we follow in their illustrious paths, we would still want to come and do this ourselves, because it is such a wonderful experience to see the smiles on the faces of the staff, the nurses and the doctors,” the Governor General said.

He  said that  his visit to the Falmouth Hospital and the opportunity of observing its operations, reminded him of some of the fundamental traits that define “us as a people and that make us so truly Jamaican.”

“It is our spirit of compassion and our desire to serve others and the determination that we have as a people.  Despite the fact that we may not have some of the amenities at our disposal,  we still try to make do with the best that we have and this is what you are doing here at the Falmouth Hospital,” the Governor General said.
