On Tuesday, February 26, Sir Patrick Allen marked the 10th anniversary of his installation to the Office of Governor-General. He spent most of the day hosting the Annual Custodes Meeting and Luncheon.
At the Luncheon, Governor-General’s Secretary (GGS), Michelle Garvey Clarke, surprised Sir Patrick and Lady Allen with a framed Citation to congratulate them on the anniversary.
The Citation noted the inspiration which he had provided, his exemplary leadership, and energy in ensuring excellence. She said he had elevated the Office so that it was held in high esteem both locally and internationally.
Mrs Garvey Clarke referred to the theme of The Governor-General’s Inaugural Address which said, “I believe there is nothing wrong with Jamaica that cannot be fixed by what is right with Jamaica.”
The GGS said this statement had recognized the positive features of our traditions, encouraged and promoted their value in building the country, and created special programmes for advancing national development. She added that the social initiatives of the Governor-General’s Programme for Excellence (GGPE) and the introduction of the service element had made a difference in the lives of communities and institutions across the island.
In his response, His Excellency said that he and Lady Allen were grateful for the opportunity to serve. He expressed appreciation to the Staff of the Office of The Governor-General and thanked them for the thoughtful gesture.
