Governor General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Professor Sir Kenneth Hall, has urged students of new Troy High School in Trelawny to take their education seriously and seize the opportunity to bring about positive changes in the parish.

Sir Kenneth, who stopped at the school during a recent tour of South Trelawny told the students that: “You have a new institution here and you have an opportunity to change the way Troy is seen and perceived in the next several years. You have an opportunity for laying the foundation for the development of Trelawny.”

He noted that the opportunities in the parish for self-sufficiency and entrepreneurship are enormous “whether in agriculture, tourism, marketing or entertainment”.

“All of this is saying to you in the high schools that there is now a great opportunity for you to seize the initiative and prepare yourselves for this bright future ahead of you,” the Governor General said, while encouraging the students to cherish the educational opportunity and continue on the path to success.

During the tour, which was organized by the Custos of Trelawny, Royland Barrett, the Governor General and Lady Hall visited the Albert Town High School; a yam field in Thompson Town; Verunica Park, which is a new entertainment facility under construction in Troy; and Troy All-age School.
