FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 15, 2014
Her Excellency the Most Honourable Lady Allen, Co-Patron of the Sagicor/Sigma Corporate Run 2014, on Tuesday (Jan. 14) lauded the Sagicor Group of Companies for not shirking its corporate social responsibility despite its own business-related challenges. She was speaking at the official launch of the annual 5K Run which will be held in Kingston on February 16.
Lady Allen said given that we are living in an economically challenging time with scarce resources to finance the cost of health care and other social services, it was heartening to see private sector entities being good corporate entities. “This morning we are proudly witnessing a fine example of good corporate social responsibility,” Lady Allen stated.
She urged as many individuals, groups, companies and organizations as possible to get involved in the 2014 Sagicor/Sigma Corporate Run so that it can achieve its target of $17 million. “Our children need your support. Let’s work together to make this a truly happy New Year for our children,” she concluded.
Proceeds from the 5K run, walk and wheelchair event will be donated to the Sickle Cell Unit and the Special Care Nursery at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Donations will also be made to the Jamaica Kidney Kids Foundation. Lady Allen is joined as Patron of the event by Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and singer Tessanne Chin.
